In 2026, the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP), a research unit affiliated with Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, celebrates 40 years of scientific research, marked by a history of research, international collaboration and advanced training.

To mark this milestone, LIP will organise a week of celebrations from 4 to 8 May, with events in Coimbra, Braga and Lisbon, bringing together the scientific community, institutional partners and the public.

The programme includes institutional sessions, theme days dedicated to strategic areas, as well as opportunities for reflection on the role of science in Portugal and its future challenges. Open Days will also be held at LIP’s three nodes, aimed at students and the general public.
