Alumni Talks: Técnico community reunites again for a conversation about careers in consulting

The initiative is supported by Fundação Santander.

Alumni Talks: Consulting Edition once again brought together Técnico students and alumni for an open conversation about careers in the consulting sector. The session took place on December 9 at the Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade, bringing together students interested in gaining a better understanding of the sector, clarifying expectations, and learning how to build a career in consulting.

Pedro Amaral, Vice-President of Técnico for Corporate Interface, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, emphasised the importance of collaboration between the School and its alumni: “It is a pleasure to have you here and to count on your support for the work we are developing”. He also noted that “consulting today represents a different scale of relationship with industry and technology”, adding that it is “an increasingly relevant field when we think about the future professional paths of our students”. He concluded by encouraging participants to make the most of the session and the networking opportunities.

Throughout the event, Técnico alumni shared insights into a consultant’s day-to-day work, the most valued skills, and the challenges associated with the early stages of a consulting career. Some of the leading consulting firms in today’s landscape were represented, including Accenture, BAIN, BCG, Deloitte, KPMG, McKinsey, and Santander. With academic backgrounds in fields such as Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Industrial Engineering and Management, the invited alumni demonstrated that it is possible to pursue a consulting career from a wide range of academic paths and perspectives.

Several students attending the sold-out event highlighted the opportunity to ask questions directly to professionals in the field and to gain a clearer understanding of the different entry paths and career progression opportunities within the sector.

Alumni Talks are part of the initiatives promoted by the Técnico Career Center in the areas of employability and career development. New editions are scheduled for 2026, bringing together Técnico alumni from different fields to continue strengthening the connection between the academic community and the professional world.
