Constitution of the Ombudsman for Education and Técnico Professionals

The now appointed Ombudsman assume the roles for the next four years

Instituto Superior Técnico set up an Ombudsman’s Office to defend and promote the School’s values ​​as well as the legitimate rights and interests of members of the academic community.

Instituto Superior Técnico’s Ombudsman’s Office is composed of 2 ombudsmen, having been appointed for the next four years:

The Education Ombudsman aims to promote respect for the individual, the quality of academic experience, and prevent prejudice, discrimination and abuse. The objective is to guarantee satisfaction with the academic experience, basing it on mutual security, tolerance and trust, values ​​that are central to human, social and cultural development. The final objective is to characterize academic life by openness, clarity and objectivity, with a view to better collaborative working conditions in the educational community and individual and institutional success.

The Education Ombudsman is responsible for the analysis of situations where academic values ​​are discredited, and of reported situations that jeopardize the normality of teaching and learning activities due to the violation of ethical principles and civility by Students or Teachers. These may present to the Ombudsman participations, complaints, expositions or petitions regarding issues associated with Teaching that discredit this activity, in accordance with the Letter of Rights and Guarantees and the Code of Conduct and Good Practices of the University of Lisbon, when referring to matters and behaviors that, in the context of the Institute’s functions and activities, are considered discriminatory, offensive or abusive.

The purpose of the Ombudsman for Professionals is to promote the defense and promotion of legitimate rights and interests and a professional experience that contributes to individual and institutional success at Técnico, with respect for the individual, the quality of professional experience, and preventing prejudice, discrimination and abuse. The objective is to guarantee satisfaction with the professional experience, basing it on safety, tolerance and mutual trust, values ​​that are central to human, social and cultural development.

The Ombudsman is responsible for analyzing the participations, complaints, expositions or petitions presented by IST Professionals regarding actions or omissions by the Institute’s bodies, services or agents and also on related administrative matters or others arising from their activity at the Institute and that are considered by them illegal, discriminatory, violent, offensive or abusive.
