Death of professor Amílcar Sernadas, a Distinguished Full Professor at Técnico

The last tributes to professor Amílcar Sernadas will take place on February 8, between 5 p.m and 8 p.m., at Igreja São João de Deus. The funeral will be held on February 9, at 11 a.m. (Alto de São João cemetery).

Professor Amílcar Sernadas, who was distinguished with the title of Distinguished Professor during Técnico’s Anniversary Ceremony in 2016, died this Tuesday, 7th February 2017.

His academic and institutional life was very relevant. His major scientific contributions, which earned him worldwide recognition, greatly contributed to the development of computer science and computer engineering in Portugal.

Amílcar Sernadas was born in 1952, in Angola. He graduated in Electrical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico in 1975. He receive his PhD in Computer Science from the University of London in 1980. He was Full Professor at Técnico (Department of Mathematics) since 1990.
