Hackathon challenges the Técnico community to rethink cities in collaboration with three European universities

Applications are open until 9 May 2026.

The community of Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, is invited to participate in the Tri-City SLW Hackathon – Crafting Future Cities, an international challenge taking place on 21 and 22 May 2026 that will connect three European cities – Stockholm, Lisbon and Wrocław – as part of the Unite! Widening project. The initiative is led by Fátima Montemor, a professor and researcher at Técnico, with the involvement of the School’s professors and staff.

Under the theme “Public Space as Living Infrastructure: Fusing Nature, Technology, and Mobility Justice”, the initiative invites reflection on streets, squares and transit spaces as living ecosystems that bring together nature, technology and social interaction.

This 48-hour hybrid hackathon is aimed at students, researchers and the academic community, challenging them to design and prototype solutions for urban contexts. The initiative includes work in international teams, mentoring and a final presentation to an international jury, promoting collaboration across different fields of knowledge and European contexts.

Applications are open until 9 May 2026. There are 30 places available for in-person participation in each city and 30 places for online participation, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The initiative is part of the Universidade de Lisboa’s involvement in European research and innovation networks, inviting the community to contribute to the development of proposals addressing current urban challenges.
