The Hovione Scholarship award ceremony took place on December 15, in the Civil Engineering Museum at Técnico – Alameda campus.
Catarina Freitas, a master’s student in Biomedical Engineering, thanked the patrons for their support and highlighted that the scholarship will allow her to “be 100% focused on her studies” and to “buy a computer more suited” to the needs of this study cycle. Bianca Arruda, an undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering, said that this scholarship is “confirmation that study, effort, and dedication are worthwhile” and that her “academic performance has benefited from this support”. Daniela Cotelea and Luísa Costa, both undergraduate students in Biomedical Engineering, Simão Cordeiro, an undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering, and Sofia Sardinha, an undergraduate student in Industrial Engineering and Management, were also awarded this scholarship.
Sofia Villax, representing Hovione, invited students to visit the company’s laboratories, noting that “the future of the company depends on the work that is done in the laboratories”. The Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Henrique Matos, stated that “the history of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Hovione are intertwined”.
The Director of Academic Services at Técnico, Cristina David, referring to Hovione’s principles, called on scholarship recipients to “aim for the impossible”, “never give up”, and to bring “dedication and rigour” to everything they do. “Thank you to these excellent students and always believe in yourselves”, she concluded.
Also present at the ceremony were Tânia Varela, coordinator of the Master’s Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management, and Ermelinda Maçoas, assistant coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Chemical Engineering.
