Sound Particles among the best of “Portugal Tecnológico 2021”

Sound Particles, a startup created by the Técnico alumnus Nuno Fonseca, was distinguished last Thursday, November 25, by the “Os Melhores & As Maiores do Portugal Tecnológico” awards, with the “Melhor Marca Nacional” (“Best National Brand”) award. This is not the first time that Sound Particles has been distinguished in these awards delivered by Exame Informática and Visão. In 2019, the startup has been awarded in the “Best Software” category.

Nuno Fonseca, founder and CEO of the technological startup, shares his pride: “It’s not every day that you get a chance to receive this recognition, especially in the ‘Best National Brand’ category. Obviously, it’s something that makes us very proud, but it’s also a great responsibility”.

Founded in 2016, the startup has already participated in dozens of Hollywood productions, such as “Game of Thrones”, Star Wars, “Batman versus Superman”, “Aquaman”, “The Mummy” and “Wonder Woman”.

In October this year, the team revealed that “Dune”, the most anticipated sci-fi movie of 2021, was produced with Sound Particles technology.

Since the software was released, the company has grown around 70% every year. In 2020 there was a crash due to the pandemic, as all productions in the film and television industry were suspended.

“We will continue to work, and we will continue our course that has been absolutely fantastic, working with the best movie, TV and video game studios in the world,” says Nuno Fonseca.

The “Os Melhores & As Maiores do Portugal Tecnológico” awards recognise the personalities, innovations, brands and organisations that stand out in Portugal, in the field of technology.

The jury of the 15th edition, chaired by Arlindo Oliveira, professor at IST Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI), unanimously decided to award the “Personality of the Year” to Nuno Sebastião, president and CEO of Feedzai, which is part of Técnico Partner Network.
