Startup co-founded by Técnico alumnus is one of the winners of the World Summit Awards

The zoomguide platform stood out in the "Culture & Tourism" category.

The zoomguide app, developed by the startup with the same name and founded by the Técnico alumnus Afonso Cunha, is one of the winners of the World Summit Awards (WSA), the international initiative that rewards the best digital innovations with positive social impact, involving about 180 countries.

“This award is an extra motivation to fulfil our mission and to make culture more interactive and accessible for everyone – we are just at the beginning”, says Afonso Cunha, co-founder and executive director of zoomguide.

Zoomguide is part of the list that includes 40 solutions from 29 countries awarded by the international jury, and selected from approximately 8000 projects and products. The winning projects prove that content driven applications are enabling connectivity and sustainability, and are taking action for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Zoomguide is an AI-based search engine that, from photos taken with your mobile phone, lets you learn about the history of cultural, historical and touristic spaces through multimedia content.

WSA was initiated in 2003 in the framework of the UN World Summit on the Information Society (UN WSIS) held in Geneva, with the aim of making Information and Communication Technology (ICT) accessible to everyone. WSA has the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
