Instituto Superior Técnico has launched the Técnico Venture Lab incubator at Oeiras campus. The project is a strategic initiative by Técnico and aims to create a true hub of excellence for startups, leveraging the School’s innovation ecosystem, which includes laboratories, research and development units, and connections to industry and investment.

“We want Técnico to be a place where ideas take shape, where knowledge is transformed into impact, and where our young people can create the future”, says Rogério Colaço, President of Técnico, emphasising that “Técnico Venture Lab embodies this vision and reinforces Oeiras campus as a space where innovation and ambition go hand in hand”.

The Técnico Venture Lab can accommodate 15 teams in coworking spaces and private rooms. Currently, it hosts 11 startups operating in diverse fields such as aerospace, medical devices, and artificial intelligence in gaming. The infrastructure, which began operating in November, aims at research and prototyping tech teams, with the ambition to scale globally. The teams in the incubator have access to laboratories, as well as networks of mentors, investors, and industrial partners associated with Técnico.

The space is yet another effort to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology transfer, boosting the creation of science and technology-based companies and promoting the valorisation of research and development (R&D) results.

Técnico Venture Lab offers physical space, logistical support, and a mentoring and networking network for growing teams, in collaboration with other incubators, including Fábrica de Unicórnios in Lisbon and Incubadora do Taguspark in Oeiras.

With this new project, Técnico aims to increase the number of technology-based startups incubated in its ecosystem, promote links between researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry, and boost the market in cutting-edge technology areas such as space, future materials, sustainable construction, as well as artificial intelligence and robotics applications.
