The Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) will provide an additional 1,018 beds for student accommodation for the 2026/2027 academic year, bringing the total number of available beds to 1,506.
This increase is part of an investment plan valued at over 80 million euros, with 49.5 million euros funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The initiative aims to address the accommodation challenges faced by higher education students.
Of the 1,506 planned beds, 488 were already made available during the previous academic year, and the remaining 1,018 are scheduled to open soon.
According to officials at ULisboa, the new halls of residence have been designed to offer affordable, sustainable accommodation tailored to students’ needs, prioritising spaces that promote social interaction, integration and academic success.
Students from any higher education institution in the Lisbon municipality that has an agreement with ULisboa’s Social Services (SASULisboa) are eligible to apply for the halls of residence. Scholarship holders who are studying away from home and enrolled in 1st or 2nd cycle programmes will be given priority when accommodation is allocated.
