Open Call for Exploratory Research Projects under the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program (CMU Portugal) until 22 January

Applications are open until January 22, 2025, for Exploratory Research Projects within the scope of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program (CMU Portugal), which aims to promote international competitiveness and the capacity for innovation in Science and Technology in Portugal in the area of information and communications technologies (ICT). The call, financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), has 400k euros available to finance up to 8 projects.

The CMU Portugal Program seeks highly innovative proposals in ICT, in areas ranging from IT, Artificial Intelligence, to Robotics or Human-Computer Interaction, favouring projects that prove to have high potential for impact in international technological and economic contexts. With a maximum duration of 12 months, starting in 2025, the exploratory research projects (ERPs) will support teams of researchers from Portuguese institutions in collaboration with teams from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to initiate research activities with strategic relevance for the Program and the country.

Applications submitted must include at least one Portuguese Institution and one team at Carnegie Mellon.

Funding limits are set at €70,000 for consortia involving multiple Portuguese research institutions and €50,000 for those with a single institution.

Since its beginning in 2006, the CMU Portugal Program has launched nine Calls for funding research projects and has supported a total of 94 collaborative projects.

Proposals must be submitted through the FCT online platform, in English, by January 22, 2025, using the form available for this purpose.
