Professor Carlos Mota Soares receives J. N. Reddy medal

The Emeritus professor at Universidade de Lisboa becomes the first to be awarded with this distinction granted by the Editorial Board of the journal Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures.

Professor Carlos Mota Soares was recently awarded the J. N. Reddy medal, granted by the Editorial Board of the journal Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, becoming the first to be awarded with this distinction. According to the Full Professor “this is a recognition of a life dedicated to scientific research and public university teaching”.

This medal was created this year and aims to recognise the scientific research and action as an educator of professor J.N. Reddy, a worldwide reference for his significant contributions to Computational Mechanics and Mechanics of Composite Materials. “Professor J.N. Reddy is author of 22 books and about 600 journal papers, which had more than 20, 000 citations”, stresses professor Carlos Mota Soares. “Therefore, this distinction has a special meaning”, he says.

Professor Carlos Mota Soares was distinguished several times throughout his career: Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Porto (2017), Medal of Merit for Science (2017), IACM Zienkiewick Award (2016) and Ibero-American Distinguished Personality in Mechanical Engineering (2009) are some examples. Recently, he was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor by Universidade de Lisboa. “It was very positive to have developed my research in a field that 50 years later continues to have scientific relevance and practical importance. It was also very important to have collaborated with remarkable researchers and professors”, says the Técnico professor.
