The Técnico professors José Bioucas-Dias (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering) and Pedro Areias (Department of Mechanical Engineering) appear in the Highly Cited Researchers 2019 list of the US Clarivate Analytics, which includes 6216 scientists from almost 60 countries. The names of both professors had already appeared in previous editions, but this is the first time that professor Pedro Areias features in the list as Técnico professor.

Among the 6216 world’s most cited researchers, in 21 scientific areas, professor José Bioucas-Dias research papers were cited 13085 times (Geosciencies) and professor Pedro Areias research papers were cited 3834 times (Cross-Field).

The ranking covers the period from 2008 to 2018 and focuses only on highly cited articles, which represent one percent of what is published worldwide per year. The most represented countries this year are the United States (44%), China (10%) and the United Kingdom (8%). This year’s list includes 23 Nobel laureates. Harvard University, home to 203 researchers, is the institution that has the highest concentration of Highly Cited Researchers in the world.
