• Oradora: dr. Angeliki Diane Rigos (Executive Director of the Tata Center for Technology and Design – MIT Energy Initiative, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA)
• Título: “Reimagining academia’s role in social innovation”
• Resumo:
Individual labs and research groups are working on social innovation technologies at universities all over the world. But how do you focus the research capabilities to make a coherent, intentional effort to solve at scale persistent challenges in the developing world? Two of the most important approaches we have used at the MIT Tata Center for Technology and Design is to include scale in the design of the solution and to work on supporting the relevant policies. We also work with the users of the technology from Day 1 rather than come up with solutions in the lab that are either not addressing the problem in the field or would not be adopted by the users. And last, but not least, we assist in the creation of ventures and/or policies that will produce and/or implement the new technologies which focus on problems in agriculture, energy, environment, health, housing and water.
