Francisco Melo

(born October 26, 1977, Guarda)

Francisco Melo graduated in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 2001. In 2007 he completed his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, also at Técnico. In 2008 and 2009 he was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2010 he began his teaching career in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Técnico.

He has been a researcher at INESC-ID since 2009 and he is currently head of the Group of AI for People and Society.

He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 2021 and 2022, with responsibility for financial resources. In 2023 he took over the Coordination of the Doctoral Programme in Computer Science and Engineering.
