Enrich the Undergraduate Programme curriculum
Building a bridge that fits the needs of a city, developing a sustainable vehicle or creating an optimal model for distributing medicines across a country requires more knowledge than just mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology or engineering.
Social Sciences help engineers, scientists and architects to understand society, how it works and its needs. Arts stimulate creativity and ingenuity while the Humanities exercise critical thinking and communication skills.
The subjects are offered at various faculties of the University of Lisbon, covering areas from Management and Economics to Humanities, Psychology and Fine Arts, as well as Sport.
Target Audience
The humanistic curricular component is intended for all students enrolled in an undergraduate programme at Técnico, but may also also be taken by students not enrolled in an study programme, by applying for Isolated Curricular Units at the faculty where each subject is taught.
Curricular Framework
The Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HACS) curricular component corresponds to 9 ECTS and is divided into two groups:
Introduction to Economics or Management (3 ECTS):
- taught at Técnico, assigned as defined in the curricular plan of each programme;
- no application is required.
HACS I and II (6 ECTS):
- to be chosen from the list indicated below (two 3 ECTS curricular units or one with 6 ECTS);
- application required.
Application
To take HACS I and II, an application must be made during the previous semester, according to the deadlines set in the Academic Deadlines Calendar.
Seriation is based on the admission grade to Técnico affected by a balance parameter between the various study cycles, as defined in the regulations.
Up to 6 curricular units may be chosen, ordered according to preference.
Enrollment
After the application, a reservation is made automatically in the course, which will have to be confirmed by each student upon the enrolment in the semester in the Fénix system. If there is no prior booking, the course will not be available in Fénix and it will not be possible to enroll.
After confirming the booking and enrolment in Fénix, it is not necessary to enrol in the School where the course unit is taught, since this is communicated internally by the academic services of Técnico to the School. It is not possible to change the enrollment.
Access to the academic platforms of other schools (Moodle, Fénix or equivalent) must be requested by each student to the academic/IT services of the School.
