“Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Personalised Diagnosis, Treatment and Care” | Series of Talks “Artificial Intelligence in Interaction with the Physical World”

Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade

23 January, from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., at Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade

Date: 23 January
Hour: 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
Venue: Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade (attendance is free)

This session will help you explore how Artificial Intelligence is revolutionising medicine and transforming healthcare. It will be an open public conversation focused on innovative advances and the future of personalized healthcare

In this panel, we will discuss the following topics:

  • Automatic diagnosis through the analysis of medical images (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and mammograms) to speed up and improve the accuracy of examinations;
  • Early detection of diseases and diagnosis of rare diseases, with algorithms that analyse large volumes of hospital and social media data to anticipate outbreaks and identify complex patterns;
  • Precision medicine, where AI cross-references genetic and medical history data to recommend treatments tailored to each patient;
  • Home monitoring of patients and dependent patients using wearable devices for continuous, personalised follow-up;
  • Accelerated drug discovery thanks to molecular interaction simulation, paving the way for new medicines;
  • Robotic surgery for safer and more accurate procedures;
  • Optimised hospital management, which improves scheduling, logistics and resource use in healthcare services.

The session will bring together Catarina Barata (Instituto Superior Técnico and ISR-Lisboa/LARSyS), Francisca Leite (Learning Health / Luz Saúde), Henrique Martins (ISCTE-IUL), Marco Manso (PARTICLE-Summary), and other speakers to be confirmed, and will be moderated by Patrícia Figueiredo (Instituto Superior Técnico and ISR-Lisboa/LARSyS).

The series of talks titled “Artificial Intelligence in Interaction with the Physical World”, a collaboration between Instituto Superior Técnico and the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa), will highlight successful partnerships between the scientific community and the business sector that address practical challenges or inspire innovative solutions emerging from Portugal. Drawing on concrete examples from Portugal, researchers at Instituto Superior Técnico and its research units will present and discuss aspects of AI that are not widely recognised yet significantly impact our daily lives.

The talks will take place in Leonel Moura’s ‘Art with Science’ exhibition space, where artistic works created using robots and AI are currently on show.

Upcoming talks:

  • Ethics and Social Responsibility of AI (13 February 2026)
