Instituto Superior Técnico will host the XIII Black Holes Workshop, organised by the Center for Astrophysics and Gravitation (CENTRA), on 21st and 22nd December 2020.
The thirteenth edition of the Black Holes Workshop celebrates three decisive dates in the history of black holes: Firstly this year’s Nobel Prize to black holes, in the names of Roger Penrose for the theory component, and of Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for the observational component, specifically for the observations of the supermassive black hole in the center of our galaxy; secondly, the 50th anniversary of the singularity theorems of Hawking and Penrose, a work that was published in 1970; thirdly, the 60th anniversary of the Kruskal and Szekeres maximal analytic extension of the Schwarzschild solution.
