«The Centre for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism and Architecture (CiTUA) announces the launch of the book “Campus Inclusivos: Arquitectura, Deficiência e Sensibilidade Humana” (’Inclusive Campi: Architecture, Disability and Human Sensitivity”), by Pablo Campos Calvo-Sotelo (University of San Pablo), presented by Teresa Heitor, professor at Instituto Superior Técnico.

The event will take place on 9 July, at 12 p.m., in the DECivil Museum.

The book is the result of in-depth research into the criteria for planning and designing inclusive university spaces. Sonia Izquierdo, Covadonga Lorenzo, Pedro L. Nieto and Teresa Raventós collaborated on the book.

The originality of the study lies in the methodology adopted, which is centered on listening to people with intellectual disabilities. These individuals were asked to reflect on the perceptual-psychological impacts caused by different architectural typologies in the university context.

The research culminates in the formulation of a set of universal design criteria for physical spaces in Higher Education, defined on the basis of the emotional impact generated by the composition of the various architectural typologies, analysed at three scales: campus, building and classroom.»
