The book “Do Cairo ao Cabo, crónicas de uma jornada por África” (From Cairo to the Cape, chronicles of a journey through Africa) will be presented on July 18 at 6.30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Exploratório Ciência Viva, in Coimbra.

The authors of the book and Técnico alumni João Damião Almeida and Manuel Carvalho will attend the event. The book will be presented by Professor Arlindo Oliveira, former president of Técnico. After completing their master’s degree, in 2021, they created the ‘Prá Frente’ project, winning a national scholarship for a Gap Year in Africa, with the challenge of learning about and promoting sustainable innovation in Southeast Africa.

“Leaving Portugal for an adventure with no return date, João and Manel set out on a Gap Year in Africa to learn about and promote sustainable innovation in the region. They returned 220 days, 22,000 kilometers on the road and 12 countries later. Along the way, they wrote weekly narratives about the landscapes and cultures, the people and cuisine, the adventures and unforgettable destinations they passed through.

From bike safaris to boat crossings in Malawi, remote islands off the coast of Tanzania and Africa’s last absolute monarchy, these are the stories of those who have lived the African continent from north to south.”»
