«The IST Press is pleased to announce the launch of the book “Stochastic Processes. Theory, Examples & Exercises”, by Manuel Cabral Morais, on May 22nd.

The book will be presented by António Pacheco Pires, a full professor at Instituto Superior Técnico (Department of Mathematics).

This is the first volume of the new IST Press collection “Yellow Series | Science & Technology Series”, which aims to provide advanced students with high-quality scientific and pedagogical texts in the fields of engineering, science and technology, in English.

The book aims to be an introductory textbook to a central and active area of Applied Mathematics, Stochastic Processes, explaining the theory clearly and demonstrating how it can be applied to solve concrete problems. This “workbook” is mathematically accurate yet avoids unnecessary mathematical sophistication, making it suitable for undergraduate and graduate students in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, and Management.

A critical and unique feature of this well-written book is the structure of its exercises. They are embedded in the main text and have spaces to fill. This feature helps the students to stop and reflect on what they have just read and encourages them to become active during the educational process.

Attendance is free but subject to maximum room capacity.
