«The C²TN Academy – Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias Nucleares is pleased to announce a seminar by José Luis Plaza Canga-Argüelles, researcher and associate professor in the Materials Science Department, and Director of the prestigious Crystal Growth Laboratory — active since the 1960s — at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain.
Professor José Luis Argüelles will deliver a presentation titled “Crystal Growth at the Crystal Growth Lab in Madrid: Progress in CdZnTe and CdZnSeTe VGF-Grown Crystals for X and Gamma-Ray Detector Applications”, in which he will discuss recent advances in the growth and characterisation of crystals used in X-ray and gamma-ray detectors, with particular emphasis on CdZnTe and CdZnSeTe crystals grown using the VGF (Vertical Gradient Freeze) technique.
The talk will also cover the main equipment and laboratory techniques employed — including Czochralski, Bridgman, VGF, and solution growth — as well as other crystals currently under study, such as LiNbO₃, Li₂B₄O₇, ZnWO₄, CdTe, GaSb, and Si.»
