«The Chemistry Olympics Semi-final is a regional stage of the national competition organised by the Sociedade Portuguesa de Química (SPQ). The event brings together secondary-school students from different schools to test their chemistry knowledge through team-based challenges.
Hosted at the Department of Chemical Engineering (DEQ) at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, this semi-final allows participants to experience a university scientific environment while engaging in a stimulating academic competition. Students work collaboratively to solve problems that require scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, and the application of chemistry concepts.
The top-performing teams in this stage qualify for the national final of the Chemistry Olympics, where they compete with other finalists from across the country.
The event aims to promote interest in chemistry, encourage scientific curiosity, and inspire students to pursue studies and careers in science.
