«The houses of the court nobility in Lisbon, from the period before the rise of the Joanine Baroque, are almost unknown, despite their importance in the city’s image. Largely overlooked by historiography due to their “plain” style, these buildings were barely studied and their conservation was neglected.

This presentation explores how they have been viewed since the end of the 19th century, taking as reference the opposing perspectives of Júlio de Castilho and Raul Lino.

VitaC is an engaging monthly seminar series designed to explore and highlight the latest research initiatives within the Center for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism and Architecture (CiTUA) at Instituto Superior Técnico, aiming to provide a dynamic platform for researchers to present their work, engage in diverse debates and promote innovation through collaboration.»
