«On January 22nd, at 3 p.m., Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, will host the first Nuclear Talk of the year at its Loures Campus (VIP Canteen).
This session will be dedicated to memory and science, featuring the participation of two former Coordinating Researchers of Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN), now Campus Tecnológico e Nuclear (CTN), who, over the course of nearly four decades, made outstanding contributions to nuclear research in Portugal.
Frederico Carvalho – An Electrical Engineer, graduated from University of Porto and holds a PhD from the University of Karlsruhe, with a career devoted to research and leadership in the development of nuclear instrumentation and neutron physics. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, held management positions at LFEN/ITN, retired in 2006, and remains active in national and international scientific organisations. He was awarded the Medal of Scientific Merit in 2018.
José Salgado – Holding a degree in Physical and Chemical Sciences from Universidade de Lisboa and a PhD from University of Karlsruhe, he carried out research and developed nuclear instrumentation with applications in industry and agriculture, while also contributing to academic supervision, teaching and participation in technical and scientific bodies. He published several scientific works and retired in 2004.
The discussion will be moderated by José Marques, Coordinating Researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico at CTN.
This event offers a valuable opportunity to hear first-hand accounts from those who played a decisive role in the development and consolidation of nuclear science in Portugal, in an informal setting open to the scientific community and the interested public.
