The Centre for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research (IN+) is pleased to announce a new seminar.

  • 6th April 2022 – 10 a.m.-11 a.m.
  • Venue: Department of Mechanical Engineering (meeting room)
  • Speaker: professor Matthias H. Buschmann (Institut für Luft- und Kältetechnik, ILK Dresden; TU Dresden)
  • Title: “Laminar Pipe Flow under the Influence of Magnetic Field

Abstract:
Enhancing heat and mass transfer processes is a paramount issue in several industrial applications, namely in cooling systems. In this context, nanofluids, i.e. base fluids, such as water, added with nanometric sized particles, are pointed as high-potential solutions to enhance heat transfer.

Among these, ferronanofluids are gaining interest within the scientific community, as they can be controlled by magnetic forces, inducing specific motion to the fluids, thus allowing for specific cooling/energy transport and inducing convective currents. This talk explores the use of ferronanofluids and how induced magnetic forces affect an internal pipe flow. The work addresses the use of different configurations, namely the how the position of the magnets and the flow characteristics may enhance heat transfer in pipe flows.
