The Local Event on Education (LEoE), organised by BEST Lisbon, will take place on 11 May 2026, at Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade.

The event brings together students, professors, engineers and industry representatives, with the aim of encouraging discussion on engineering education.
This year’s event focuses on the potential mismatch between academic training and the skills required in the professional world.

The opening ceremony will be attended by professor Rogério Colaço and will feature a presentation of BEST’s services, highlighting its role in connecting Técnico students with the academic community. This will be followed by sessions dedicated to the development of soft skills, delivered by BEST’s Trainers, as well as a presentation of the Capstone project by professor Miguel Teixeira, President of the Pedagogical Council at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa.

The event will also include a Company Spotlight session, where a company will present its activities and opportunities, followed by a session dedicated to demystifying the PhD journey, approached from various complementary perspectives.

The highlight of the event will take place at 3 p.m.: a panel discussion bringing together students, professors, engineers and industry representatives, with the aim of identifying solutions that bridge the gap between academic training and the real-world needs of engineering.
Confirmed speakers include Pedro Neto Monteiro, President of the Lisbon Academic Federation, representing students; Maria Soares, CEO of Immersiv Studios, representing industry; and professor Miguel Teixeira, President of the Pedagogical Council at Instituto Superior Técnico, representing academia.

The conclusions of this debate will be compiled into a position paper, with the aim of contributing to improvements in the education system.

The event will also include a networking session in the form of a mini-fair, promoting direct interaction between companies and participants.

The programme concludes with a celebration of BEST’s anniversary, which will feature João Moita, a Técnico alumnus and currently CEO of Product Circle, who will share his journey and highlight the organisation’s impact over the years.
