«The Department of Chemical Engineering (DEQ) at Instituto Superior Técnico is proud to host, for the first time, the National Final of the Junior Chemistry Olympiad.
The Chemistry Olympiad, organised annually by the Portuguese Society of Chemistry (SPQ), brings together students from across the country in a competition that tests their theoretical and practical knowledge in chemistry.
At Técnico, the event has the active collaboration of DEQ, which has been hosting the semifinals of the Chemistry Olympiad Plus and the Junior Chemistry Olympiad for several years. These competitions are aimed at secondary school students and middle school students (3rd cycle), respectively.
Beyond hosting the theoretical and laboratory exams, DEQ also opens its laboratories to showcase the research and studies conducted at the department. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive experimental activities, illustrating the work carried out by its associated research units (CQE, CERENA and CeFEMA) and exploring the impact of chemistry in various fields of engineering and technology.
In addition to the participation of faculty and researchers, the event is marked by the enthusiastic involvement of DEQ students from various academic levels. These students play an active role in the event’s organisation, assisting with logistics, supporting participating teams, and leading hands-on experimental activities. This engagement not only provides a direct connection with young talents but also strengthens a sense of community and knowledge exchange between different generations.
By hosting this event, Instituto Superior Técnico reaffirms its role as a leading institution in chemistry and chemical engineering education and research, inspiring future generations of scientists and engineers.»
