«How can we teach a plant to recognise when it needs water?
Rob9-16, an educational project run by Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, dedicated to promoting science, robotics and engineering among children and young people aged 9 to 16, is organising another activity as part of X Zone – Science Club, this time focused on building a smart plant pot.
Over the course of six 3-hour practical sessions, participants will take on the role of young engineers and use sensors, programming and electronics to create a system capable of measuring soil moisture and automatically watering the plant when necessary.
The activity follows the Rob9-16 methodology, based on ‘learning by doing’, allowing participants to explore, build, programme, test and improve their solution through experimentation and problem-solving.
No prior programming or robotics knowledge is required – just curiosity and a willingness to give it a go.
Target group: students from 3rd to 6th grade
Places available: 16
Price: 60 €/month | 180 € for the 6 sessions
