The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, with the support of partner companies: HUAWEI, MEO, NOKIA, NOS and VODAFONE, will organise Telethon 2026.
Telethon is a hackathon focused on telecommunications, i.e., a technology competition where teams of undergraduate students are challenged to analyse a case study of 5G applications within specific economic sectors.
The event aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the telecommunications field from a global perspective, following the motto “Learn, Build, and Transform Telecommunications”. Case studies are defined for various economic sectors, each characterised by a set of analytical axes, with specific questions to be addressed. The participants’ work is structured into three phases, aligned with these groups. Teams are expected to present innovative solutions for implementing the case studies.
The prizes are:
- 1st Prize, monetary, worth 5,000 euros for the team, and certificates for the members;
- 2nd Prize, monetary, worth 3,500 euros for the team, and certificates for the members;
- 3rd Prize, monetary, worth €2,000 for the team, and certificates for the members;
- Honourable Mentions for 2 teams, worth €500 for the team, with certificates for the members;
- An internship is offered by each partner for the members of each of the 5 finalist teams.
