“The Industry of the Future: Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Services” | Series of Talks “Artificial Intelligence in Interaction with the Physical World”

Técnico Innovation Center, powered by Fidelidade

3 October, from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., at Técnico Innovation Center, powered by Fidelidade

Date: 3 October
Hour: 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
Venue: Técnico Innovation Center, powered by Fidelidade (attendance is free)

In a rapidly changing world where technology is redefining how we live, produce, and interact with the environment, this panel invites both experts and curious minds to explore the role of artificial intelligence, robotics, and new technologies in creating a more efficient, sustainable, and humane industry.

We will look at the innovations that are revolutionising factories and services, including:

  • Service robots that interact naturally with humans in homes, hospitals and offices;
  • Surveillance, search and rescue robots;
  • Collaborative robots and adaptive assembly lines that work side by side with humans in production;
  • Smart design using AI to create more effective prototypes and environmentally friendly products;
  • Predictive maintenance systems that anticipate failures and prevent costly downtime;
  • Stock and logistics optimisation through intelligent route planning and real-time tracking, taking climate, costs, and carbon footprint into account;
  • The increasing impact of 3D printing and cyber-physical systems within the context of Industry 4.0.

The session will bring together Rodrigo Ventura (Instituto Superior Técnico and ISR-Lisboa/LARSyS), Christine Marconcin (Critical Techworks), and other speakers to be confirmed, and will be moderated by José Santos-Victor (Instituto Superior Técnico and ISR-Lisboa/LARSyS).

The series of talks titled “Artificial Intelligence in Interaction with the Physical World”, a collaboration between Instituto Superior Técnico and the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa), will highlight successful partnerships between the scientific community and the business sector that address practical challenges or inspire innovative solutions emerging from Portugal. Drawing on concrete examples from Portugal, researchers at Instituto Superior Técnico and its research units will present and discuss aspects of AI that are not widely recognised yet significantly impact our daily lives.

The talks will take place in Leonel Moura’s ‘Art with Science’ exhibition space, where artistic works created using robots and AI are currently on show.

Upcoming talks:

  • Smart Cities and Smart Homes: How Artificial Intelligence transforms common space (21 November 2025)
  • Smart Grids for a Sustainable Future: Energy, Water, Environment and Agriculture (12 December 2025)
  • Artificial Intelligence in Health: Diagnosis, Treatment and Personalised Care (23 January 2026)
  • Ethics and Social Responsibility of AI (13 February 2026)
