«Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is pleased to announce the concert “Petite Messe Solennelle”, by Gioachino Rossini, on 10 July 2025, at 9 p.m., in Aula Magna. The concert is part of the ‘Music at the Universidade de Lisboa’ programme and features musical direction by Luís Almeida and the participation of the ULisboa Chamber Choir.

Unexpected, moving and original – the Petite Messe Solennelle is one of Gioachino Rossini’s last works, composed in 1863. Known worldwide for his operatic comedies, Rossini surprises us here with a Mass that is anything but ‘small’ in spirit and emotion. He wrote it for 4 soloists, choir, two pianos and harmonium – an unusual choice that gives the work a breathtaking intimacy and a unique sonority.

Attendance is free and limited to room capacity.»
