The ULisboa redeMOV Conference “Dynamic road space allocation in urban and complex areas” will take place on 8 April 2025, at 5 p.m., in the TTC@ULisboa Auditorium. The conference is part of the “Conversas à Terça” conference series and will be presented by Gabriel Costa Valença.
In urban areas, the urban space is often contested by various activities, modes of transportation, and urban functions. The redistribution of urban space does not take into account the fluctuations in demand during the hours, days and seasons of the year. Consequently, there are periods when certain spaces are saturated, while others are underutilised. This work hypothesises that there is potential to allocate road space dynamically over time when demands are complementary or in dispute. Emerging sensing technologies could be useful for characterising the different demands in real time. Transport demand management and control technologies can be used to dynamically reallocate space, inform users of transitions and connect infrastructure to users.
The redeMOV organises the “Conversas à Terça”, a monthly conference series that aims to be a space for debate and reflection on urban mobility.
