«The interdisciplinary thematic network on Health at Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) – redeSAÚDE is pleased to announce the Workshop “Multiple Perspectives on Genomic Medicine in Oncology”, on 8 July, at 10 a.m.
Twenty years after the first human genome has been sequenced, the low cost of obtaining the genomic information of each individual makes it possible to consider acquiring the complete genome of a representative part of the population. This makes genomic information an important tool in the prevention and treatment of diseases. By cross-referencing genomic data on a population scale with clinical history and knowledge of environmental and behavioural factors, it is possible to better understand how to prevent and treat multiple morbidities. Genomic medicine is thus a key element in the development of precision medicine, making it possible to personalise healthcare and offer more effective treatments for each patient.
This workshop aims to promote a reflection on the evolution of Genomic Medicine in Portugal and a discussion on how to generalise its practice in the Health System and make its data available for clinical research.»
