«The responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in science and higher education is a controversial topic, especially with the arrival of ChatGPT and other similar tools. In this context, the Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) shares important knowledge and considerations with its community, including faculty, researchers, technical and administrative staff and students.
Banning the use of AI would be ineffective. We need, first of all, to adopt approaches so that these tools are used effectively and appropriately, in line with the University’s mission, goals and values. ULisboa encourages discussion on the immediate consequences of AI on learning and teaching, research and innovation, as well as the broader role of the University in relation to the impact of AI on society. The aim is to monitor the development of these technologies, consult experts and share advice and best practices as the use of AI tools evolves.»
