This Monday and Tuesday took place the second edition of PhD Open Days, an initiative organised by Técnico that allows PhD students to share their research and discuss different topics with experts from different areas.
This year, the event was divided into two topics: the first day was focused on topics related to mobility and was attended by professor Tiago Farias, president of Transportes de Lisboa, and Carlos Castro, from Lisbon City Hall. The second day was dedicated to healthy ageing, and the audience could attend to lectures on topics as wide as cancer, geriatrics and humanoid robot for assisting elderly people.
Professor Paulo Ferrão, president of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), closed the session saying that “What makes a school modern? I think it depends on two things: organisation and culture, and this event is a good example of that.”
“The involvement of companies in such initiatives is also important as well as the development of mechanisms that bring together market and research. We must convince society that what we are doing is important and that we address problems that matter to everyone.”
Over the two days, several posters presentations were organised, in the field of Architecture, Biomedical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Leaders for Technical Industries. More information about the posters can be found here.
