Seventeen Técnico students won the Gulbenkian New Talents Scholarship in the areas of Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, awarded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
These scholarships aim to identify and support the talent of outstanding students and stimulate their journey into the world of research.
Técnico awarded students:
Biology: Marta Vasconcelos, Simão Fonseca;
Physics: Carolina Miranda, Duarte Lopes, João Belas, José Mariano, José Martins and Costa;
Mathematics: Afonso Alves, Filipe Pereira dos Santos, Filipe Pinheiro de Almeida, Francisco Melo, Laura Guerreiro, Mariana Costa, Tiago Mourão, Tiago Morgadinho;
Chemistry: Diana Marques, Leonardo Miranda.
The prize includes support for the payment of tuition fees and to stimulate research to the value of 1,000 euros; 1,500 euros for ‘talent enrichment activities such as advanced training courses; participation in conferences and summer schools; internships, language courses, purchase of books and laboratory supplies. In addition, there is a further support of 1,000 euros for applicants in adverse social situations, i.e. with an annual per capita household income of less than 12,000 euros.
Students must be enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate programme or integrated master’s programme; or in the 1st year of a master’s programme, at a Portuguese higher education institution, and have a grade point average equal to or higher than 17.
