The Open Laboratories DEQ 2017, organised by the Department of Chemical Engineering (DEQ) at Técnico, took place from 6th to 10th February, at IST Alameda campus (South Tower).

This initiative aims to disseminate Science among young people motivating them to Science and Technology, namely Chemistry. This event is intended for students from 1st cycle (secondary education) whose activities were very different from the younger students (Kids), 2nd and 3rd cycles (Juniors) and Secondary Education (Seniors) – these last two groups had the opportunity to attend different lectures and to visit the laboratories. The young ones didn’t attend lectures and the experiments were adapted.

The lectures were given by professor Dulce Simão, who presented DEQ and the school, guests speakers from industry and from Técnico, who spoke about topics as wide as luminous plastic, paper manufacturing, cosmetics, among many others.

During the five days, more than 1000 young people visited the Laboratories and Amphitheatres of the Department and were guided by dozens of students from Técnico who monitored the activities.
