The Environmental Engineering Seminar Series (JEAmbi) took place at Técnico – Alameda Campus, in the Congress Centre, from 8th to 10th March, and included lectures, debates and workshops on what are considered the “topics of the future”.
The event – which involved 34 companies – was organised by 17 students from the Environmental Engineering Student Group (NEEA). Maria João Pinto, president of NEEA, highlighted “the wide scope of this event” as the main differentiating factor. “Water, energy and problems of anthropic principle” were some debate topics at the event, which aimed to discuss “solutions for the future”, explained Sara Capucho, vice-president of JEAmbi 2023.
From theory to practice, the 14th edition of the Environmental Engineering Seminar Series included the reuse of an art installation (exhibited at the entrance of the Civil Engineering building), eco-friendly product stalls and a seed bombs workshop given by António Vaz Pato and Beatriz Vicente, from HortaFCUL (permaculture garden in the Faculty of Sciences, Universidade de Lisboa).
The participants learnt that, by bringing together clay, vegetable substrate and a handful of diverse seeds, it is possible to turn an abandoned place into a green space. These seed bombs will then be thrown like grenades and water (from rain or irrigation) will do the rest.
