Intellectual Property (IP) is a key strategic tool for transforming research into solutions that generate real impact in society.
At Técnico, this dimension is integrated into the learning pathway of Master’s and PhD students through the Modular IP Education Framework (MIPEF) — a programme promoted by the European Patent Office (EPO) and coordinated by the Intellectual Property Office (NPI) at Instituto Superior Técnico.
Starting on 17 October:
The Create • Protect • Innovate: Bringing ideas to market (Entry Level) course begins on 17 October 2025, combining theoretical content with practical application in real innovation contexts. The flexible self-paced learning model includes videos, podcasts, real-world cases, live sessions with experts, a final assessment, and certification issued by the EPO.
The MIPEF aims to support the academic community in recognising, protecting, and valuing research results, connecting invention protection with market strategy and collaborative development.
Target audience: The entire Técnico community, with a focus on Master’s and PhD students from all scientific fields.
Format: Five asynchronous modules.
Methodology: Case-based learning (including projects awarded with the European Inventor Award), with tutoring and live sessions.
Certification: EPO certificate issued upon successful completion of the final assessment. Completion of this course will be valued by the Técnico NPI and Career Center teams in applications for the Pan-European Seal Internship Programme.
How to participate: Access to the course is granted in three steps:
- Fill in the application form
- Validation by Técnico’s NPI and receipt of login credentials
- Registration on the EPO platform
After completing the Entry Level, participants may progress to the Advanced Level.
Extracurricular recognition: Successful participation may also be recognised through a participation certificate issued by the Técnico Career Center.
