Four Técnico professors elected members of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering

The solemn ceremony took place at Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB). Four Técnico professors and one Técnico alumnus were elected members of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering.

Professors António Costa e Silva, Carlos Mota Soares, Carlos Guedes Soares and Mário Figueiredo were elected this Monday, February 11th, members of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering (AE), during a solemn ceremony held at Centro Cultural de Belém. The Técnico alumnus Francisco Veloso was elected full member.

The Portuguese Academy of Engineering is a non-profit association of public utility created in 1995 and aims to promote engineering research in technical and scientific areas. AE also promotes a permanent cooperation with the European Union and other countries in order to contribute to solve society’s problems and to develop research towards the same end. Therefore, members of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering play an important role. “Any individual or institution that shares AE’s objectives and has made relevant contributions in the field of engineering, namely in academic, scientific and technical fields” – may become a member of the Portuguese Academy of Sciences, as can be read in AE’s statutes.
