Leandro Gonçalves, a Computer Science and Engineering undergraduate student at Técnico, was the first student to join the Iberis Capital Scholarship programme, at a ceremony held in the Civil Engineering Museum, at Alameda Campus on 5 December.
The Vice-President of Técnico for Academic Affairs, Francisco Melo, highlighted the importance of these scholarships in allowing students to “continue their academic journey” and encouraged them to give back “once you become successful engineers”.
Leandro Gonçalves expressed his desire to “one day become a patron” and, until then, to “make it worthwhile” for the company, which he regards both as “an honour” and a “huge help”.
“Welcome to the Iberis family”, said Filipa Choon, CFO of the sponsoring company. “We are here to support you; you can count on us”, she added. Diogo Chalbert, a partner at Iberis Capital, emphasised that “this support does not end with this ceremony” and highlighted the need to “help educate this generation, which is so important”.
António Menezes Leitão also attended the event, representing the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and as coordinator of the Undergraduate Programme in Computer Science and Engineering.
The Iberis Capital Scholarship is one of over 20 scholarships to support undergraduate and master’s students at Técnico.
