Seeds Renewables selected to join Venture For ClimateTech

The startup co-founded by a EIT InnoEnergy Master’s student at Técnico was one of 11 selected startups from hundreds of candidates.

Seeds Renewables, a renewable energy FinTech mobile app, co-founded by a Técnico student, was one of the 11 startups selected to join Venture For ClimateTech. The startup will receive a non-dilutive funding of more than 100 thousand euros throughout the seven-month virtual accelerator. Guillermo Marchessi Riera, co-founder of Seeds Renewables and MSc student (Energy Engineering and Management) highlights “this is also an an opportunity to be part of an incredible Bootcamp”.

Venture For ClimateTech received 590 applications from 64 countries. The 11 startups were selected based on their solution’s ability to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in New York State and around the world; originality; potential impact on underserved populations; technology and team scalability, market timing, demand and competitiveness of the idea; and the team’s knowledge, passion, and ability to communicate.

The startup was founded by two other Spanish students, Alba Forns and Jose Luis Colomer Bel. The three entrepreneurs met in the first year of EIT InnoEnergy master’s in Renewable Energy, at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). The idea of creating Seeds Renewables arises from the desire to contribute to a better future and to help accelerate the energy transition. “Seeds’ mission is to create a financial network for climate action and our target audience is the environmental community”, explains Guillermo Marchessi Riera.

To this end, the entrepreneurs created an inclusive investment platform, lowering the minimum investment required in renewable energy projects, thus allowing investors full control of the projects they help to build, while providing them with a competitive return.
