Senior citizens visit Técnico and test a project created at SILAB

The senior group visited Alameda campus and tested the project “DETU”, created by Técnico students.

On 5th February, the Social Innovation Lab at Instituto Superior Técnico – SILAB– Social Innovation Lab invited a group of senior citizens to visit Alameda campus and to test the project “DETU”, which aims to help seniors with mobility problems.

Ana Carvalho, professor at the Department of Engineering and Management, welcomed the group and explained the essence of SILAB and the project “DETU”. “The project that you are about to test has already won several awards and was developed by students enrolled in Industrial Management and Environment course unit. This platform will make your mobility easier. We want to know your opinion about it, if you think it will help you, and if there is anything else that we should improve”.

Each senior participant tested the platform under the supervision of the DETU team: Ana Catarina Carvalho, Ariana Marques Fernandes, Pedro Saldanha Ramos and Sofia Moraes Sarmento.

“I think that this platform will improve the life of many people. I often see people with difficulties getting on and off buses, so I think this will be a success”, said Henrique Silva, who also shared his hapinness for being once again at Técnico: “I didn’t graduate here, but I came here several times to do some isolated curricular units. It’s so good to be back here again”.

Later on, the senior group visited the Civil Engineering Museum and the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR).
