Tech4Law (2nd edition) has already started

The Technology for Lawyers Bootcamp aims at students from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, who will have the opportunity to learn more about technology from Técnico experts.

During one week, more than a dozen LL.M. Law in a Digital Economy (LL.M.LDE) students from Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) will participate in the 2nd edition of “Technology for Lawyers Bootcamp”, which results from a partnership between Técnico and Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP).

The course started this Monday, September 20, with a welcome session attended by professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira (coordinator), professor Rodrigo Miragaia Rodrigues (president of IST Scientific Council) and professor Gonçalo Saraiva Matias (Dean of Católica Global School of Law).

“This program has 3 goals: to give you an inside view of the most popular digital technologies; to present you a methodology for creating value through technology; and to put yourself in the place of the founder of a startup”, said professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira, coordinator of ‘Tech4Law Bootcamp”. The teams are challenged to present a business model in front of a jury, next Friday, October 24.

“We are very fortunate and very happy to be part of this partnership with Instituto Superior Técnico”, said the Dean of Católica Global School of Law. “Técnico is one of the best engineering schools worldwide, so our students will learn from experts. This bootcamp will allow our students to better understand what is happening, what are the new developments and the new trends. This course is very important once it provides one-week intensive and immersive experience”, he added.

Professor Rodrigo Miragaia Rodrigues highlighted the importance of the link between law and technology. “Technologies will become valuable tools to permanently and drastically change the law. Those of you who share this technological vision, and not only the legal aspects, will be in an advantageous position”.

In addition to the Bootcamp coordinators – professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira and the PhD student Diogo Henriques – four Técnico professors are also involved: António Grilho (Internet-of-Things), Arlindo Oliveira (Artificial Intelligence), Luís Guerra e Silva (Cloud Computing) and Miguel Pupo Correia (Blockchain).
