Carlos Fernandes, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico and a researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), was honoured with the Career Award by the Portuguese Space Agency. The award was presented during the closing ceremony of the eighth edition of the New Space Atlantic Summit in Lisbon on 14 May.
With this award, the Portuguese Space Agency aims to recognise ‘a career of excellence and the significant contributions made to the development of space science and technology in Portugal’
Carlos Fernandes expressed that ‘this recognition reflects the ongoing work’ conducted at Técnico and IT ‘in the field of communications for space, involving and inspiring students in various projects and scientific advancements’.
During the same event, the Portuguese Space Agency also presented the Innovation Award in Space Sciences and Technologies to TEKEVER, a member of the IST spin-off community, for their GAMALINK project.
