The first edition of the Ordem dos Engenheiros National Awards took place on 12 September at Casino Estoril. Gold and silver medals were awarded to former Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE) presidents and national vice presidents. Prizes were also awarded to members of the OE who have distinguished themselves in different engineering fields.
Several members of the Técnico community received silver and gold medals: Emanuel Maranha das Neves and the alumnus and member of the Técnico School Council, Carlos Mineiro Aires.
Receiving awards from the national board of the OE were Técnico alumni Carlos Moedas, mayor of Lisbon and member of the School Council, in the “Civic Engagement” category, and Maria da Graça Carvalho, full professor at Instituto Superior Técnico and Minister for Environment and Energy, in the “Gender Equality in Engineering” category.
The Técnico professors Maria do Rosário Partidário (Environmental Engineering), Miguel Sério Lourenço (Civil Engineering), Rui Silva Martins (Electrical Engineering), António Costa e Silva (Geological and Mining Engineering), Arlindo Oliveira (Computer Science and Engineering), and João Bordado (Chemical and Biological Engineering) were also awarded.
José Luís Câncio Martins, a Técnico alumnus (Civil Engineering) received the Career Award.
