Two Técnico PhD students win a Travel Grant

This award will allow the two students and researchers at CERENA to attend EAGE conference free of charge.

Pedro Pereira and Catarina Marques, PhD students in Petroleum Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico and also young researchers at CERENA, received a Travel Grant from the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE). “We feel very honoured to receive an award at professional/academic level, in particular from such a renowned organisation as EAGE”, stresses Pedro Pereira. “It’s a recognition of our commitment and our work as students and, above all, as young researchers”, adds Catarina Marques.

This award includes financial support and full payment for registration at the 80th EAGE Conference & Exhibition 2018, allowing the participation of the two Técnico students in the event. The two students will present their works on 1th-14th July, in Copenhagen, Denmark. “We want to attend this type of conferences as PhD students and young researchers so that we can present the work developed at CERENA/IST”, says Pedro Pereira. The event will be attended by thousands of people, so it will be “a good networking opportunity”. “Finally, we can attend technical presentations and give feedback to our colleagues and to Técnico”, they add.

The EAGE Annual 2018, the 80th Conference & Exhibition is the largest and most comprehensive multi-disciplinary geoscience event in the world. The event includes a large conference – in total over 1,000 technical oral and poster presentations – and a technical exhibition presenting the latest developments in geophysics, geology and reservoir/petroleum engineering. More than 6,000 people from almost 100 different countries visit this event annually.
