IST Press debuts its stand at the 95th Lisbon Book Fair

IST Press is making its debut at the 95th Lisbon Book Fair with an exhibition stand featuring dozens of works at discounted prices.

One of the exhibition stands at the 95th Lisbon Book Fair stands out due to the number of formulas, symbols and diagrams displayed on its panels. This is the first time that Técnico participates in the book fair with its own exhibition stand. Located in Lisbon’s Parque Eduardo VII, the IST Press stand will be open throughout the event, from 4 to 22 June, in space G29, offering discounts ranging from 20% to 50%.

This marks the first time IST Press has participated in the Book Fair, which has made its employees “very proud,” according to Manuela Morais, head of editorial production at IST Press. She noted that in addition to Técnico students, many visitors from various backgrounds are showing interest. “Since our books are available in numerous bookstores nationwide, it’s easy for visitors to become acquainted with our graphic style when they approach the stand.”

IST Press offers a variety of titles, including photography and poetry books. Manuela Morais highlighted several notable works, such as those by musicologist João de Freitas Branco and “Haja Luz” by Jorge Calado, which combines the histories of art and chemistry through the centuries.

Two years ago, Maria Simões, a final-year master’s student in Biomedical Engineering, was inspired to participate after seeing a colleague’s involvement in an exhibition stand at the Book Fair. Upon learning that Técnico would have its own stand this year, Maria decided to “seize the opportunity”. She was surprised by the interest shown by visitors on the very first day (especially considering the adverse weather conditions). Even the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, visited the stand that morning to “take a look and praise our University”, she shared.

Other visitors also praised Técnico. Ronei Moraes, a university professor, commented that he had “always heard of the School as an excellent institution.” He purchased several titles that focus on his teaching areas, including geostatistics and decision-making processes, as he had heard of the “very good textbooks” from IST Press. Liliane Machado, shares that they are both in Portugal for the Book Fair for the second time and expresses her belief that the participation of higher education institutions in such events is “essential to promote and showcase what’s inside these institutions and their production”, something that is “fundamental for society.”
