The Técnico alumni Carolina João (Chemical Engineering) and João Fernando (Aerospace Engineering) will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which officially begin on 26 July.
On 30 July, João Fernando will make his Olympic debut in the men’s – 81kg category, at 9 a.m., for the qualifying rounds. The finals take place on the same day at 3 p.m. The Técnico alumnus has achieved several sporting accomplishments in recent years.
He qualified for Paris 2024 during the judo world circuit, while completing his master’s degree at Técnico. He achieved several victories such as bronze medals at the Grand Prix Upper Austria and the Grand Slam Antalya.
More than 700 kilometres from Paris, in Marseille, Carolina João will have her second Olympic experience. In Tokyo 2020, she competed in the laser radial sailing category. This time, the Técnico alumna will be paired with Diogo Costa in the 470 mixed category. The first and second races will occur on Friday 2 August at 11 a.m.
There will be two races a day, at the same time, until Tuesday 6 August. The medal race with the top 10 qualifiers will take place on August 7th.
In May, they achieved 2nd place in the European Championship in Cannes, France. Earlier in March, they finished 14th in the 470 World Championship in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
